I liked the way you wrote about the Kerry Way!

It was the best information site I found with humor written!


Today I was looking for a hiking holiday and I discoverd by accident the Kerry Way.

I actually want a walking vacation for 7/8 days with around 16/22 km per day. And two days just to relax in some place to absorb the atmosphere/culture (and food : Kenmare!)

Can you recommend a tour organisation which includes also your spot on highlights?

Or do you have an itinerary for me? I plan to leave Belgium around August 9 and I have in my mind 10 days.

(I am not a 3 day 'see-it-take-a-picture-and-leave-person)I don't mind sleeping in hostels/dormitory style but a not too expensive (I have no idea of the price?)bed and breakfast (with a good breakfast with nice people)I like too.

Looking forward to an answer because August 9 will be there soon!

Thanks for your reply.
After some other research I got a reply from the organisation Hilltop Treks.They suggested to walk the Dingle Way because that would be easier to organize for a single person.
So the Kerry Way will be for another time!
Thanks anyway for your information. It might be helpful in the future when I have more time to organize accommodation etc... myself.

Hi Inge

I am glad that you liked the information that I posted on this site.

I cannot recommend any particular walking tour operator but can suggest a route for you to take.

I would start in Killarney where there are two very reasonable hostels.

Then head for the Black Valley either on foot or take a boat trip from Ross Castle. Boat would be my choice as there is plenty of walking ahead!

The Black Valley has a lovely youth hostel - may need to book these in advance. While in the Black Valley you could walk through the Gap of Dunloe and stop for lunch/diner at Kate Kearney's cottage. You could also remain an extra day and walk up one of the many peaks in Killarney National Park. Might be best to join a group from the hostel if you can.

Rejoining the Kerry Way walk to Kenmare and stay in one of the many B&B's. Then carry on round the Ring staying in Sneem, Cahredaniel and Waterville.

If you have time try and take a boat trip to Skellig Micheal either from Caherdaniel or Ballinskelligs.

And remember to visit Derrynane Beach and my two favourite pubs on the way round.
